Economic aspects of the informal sector activities in solid waste management

WASTE, advisers on urban environment and development, in Gouda, the Netherlands, in partnership with Skat of St. Gallen, Switzerland and six Southern cities, has executed a contract with GTZ, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) to study the economic impact of the informal sector in solid waste in three cities. An additional three study cities are co-financed by the Collaborative Working Group on Solid Waste Management (CWG).

ArticleA formal meeting on the informal sector

At the end of January, WASTE organised, on behalf of the CWG (collaborative working group on solid waste in low- and middle-income countries) a workshop on the economic aspects of the informal sector in solid waste management. In addition to being a forum for discussing the informal sector, it served as a wrap-up of a project on the informal sector in six cities around the world. The project was financed by the GTZ of Germany and co-financed by the CWG.

ArticleEconomic aspects of the informal sector activities in solid waste management

A study running from May till October 2006, funded by GTZ and CWG. The overall objective of this study is to provide reliable data to use in discussions about the economic impact of informal sector activities in municipal solid waste management. The study will take place in 6 cities around the world. The study will be executed by local organisations and in partnership with SKAT.
