This study was conducted in India, and is a follow?up on a literature study on the health aspects of waste handling, published as Working Document 4, Part I. This study gives an overview of Indian legislation, discusses health effects of waste recycling, discusses the issue of child labour and identifies the clear need for awareness raising and the improvement of working conditions.

Pre-publication: Solid Waste Management in the World's Cities

WASTE has been asked to realise a publication as part of the UN Habitat's State of the World Cities series, giving an overview of the various ways of waste management in cities around the world.
At this moment more than 25 professionals are working on the city profile of their respective cities, and collecting parallel data, to allow analysis, comparison, and cross-referencing.
In the meantime UN Habitat has published a so-called pre-publication, Solid Waste Management in the World's cities to give an impression what actual book will look like. This book is very much a book for decision-makers.
In addition, specific features of the profiled cities – and others – will be highlighted in short case examples.
