FINILOOP works with cities to reduce, redesign &improve plastic waste management

By Sophie van den Berg, solid waste expert and plastic recycling adviser at WASTE

Financial Inclusion & Improved Livelihoods Out of Plastics (FINILOOP) is a programme that is creating green jobs and local circular economies by optimizing sorting and collection of household waste, reducing usage of plastic and improving recycling.

During my latest visit to India in January, I met with our Indian partners, FINISH Society and Polyplex/Cleanedge Accelerator to continue shaping the programme which has already saved 1,000 tonnes of plastic waste from ending up in the environment and created more than 70 jobs. Extremely proud of the accomplishments of our local partnership, FINISH Society is diverting plastic waste from ending up in waste dumps by emphasizing the importance of waste segregation at the source (20.000 households), creating sustainable behavior change and more efficiency in recycling the plastic waste. Their zero-waste sorting center in Udaipur is helping to find end-markets for recyclable plastic.
