WASTE appoints Han de Groot as new Executive Director

In recent months our interim director, Nico Terra, and the WASTE advisers have completed a transformation process for WASTE. Together, WASTE has built a strong organisational and financial foundation and is prepared for significant growth in the coming years. This is accelerated by the implementation of the next phase of FINISH Mondial (2021-25) and the start of the Take-a-Stake Fund—two large projects that were recently contracted and are getting ready for take-off. WASTE will continue to implement and develop a range other of projects in alignment with its revamped 5-year strategy.

We are very happy to announce that Mr. Han de Groot has been appointed by the Supervisory Board as the new Executive Director of WASTE Foundation, assuming this role as of 1 February 2021. With the completion of the above assignment, Mr. Nico Terra will be able to hand over a stronger WASTE to Han de Groot.

The Supervisory Board and WASTE advisers welcome Mr. Han de Groot full-heartedly. He brings extensive international management experience to the team. He has worked for the Dutch Government, for several international NGOs and was also CEO of the Rainforest Alliance. With his management experience in large and complex organisations, he is very well placed to lead WASTE in the next phase and to realise the objectives of the new Strategic Plan (2021-25).  Mr. Han de Groot will begin familiarising himself with the organisation, its programmes and partners in the coming period on a part-time basis before taking on the full responsibility of Executive Director by 1 February next year.

The Supervisory Board and WASTE advisers are very much looking forward to working together with Mr. Han de Groot to realise WASTE’s objectives. We also thank Mr. Nico Terra for his enormous commitment and valuable work over the last year.

With warm regards and on behalf of the WASTE Supervisory Board

Adriaan Ferf, Chairperson &

Adriaan Mels, Secretary
