Informal waste workers play a vital role in waste management systems across the world collecting, transporting, sorting and recovering recyclable and reusable waste materials, often from open dumpsites. Yet, they face unsafe working conditions, poor access to health services, little recognition, and limited protection.
In response to these challenges, and based on first-hand experience from our FINILOOP programme, we have put together a training toolkit to help improve safety, strengthen organisation, and increase access to health services and rights.
A toolkit which uses a simple, action-focused learning approach to encourage safer actions in real life by taking participants on an interactive learning journey. Sharing a message that isn’t just about handing over PPEs but the importance of using them.

A toolkit designed in collaboration with knowledge partners MDF and FNV, and local Indian organisations Trust of People and The Alliance of Indian Waste Pickers, with pilots having taken place in India and Malawi.
