As we look ahead to a new year, we are pleased to announce that our plastic waste management programme, FINILOOP, is expanding to a third city in India.
In 2024 FINILOOP will begin implementation in the famed ‘pink city’ of Jaipur.
Jaipur has a total population of 2.3 million people and is the capital of the state of Rajasthan. Currently there are three active material recovery facilities and over 200 existing plastic waste enterprises in the city which FINILOOP will be working to strengthen and connect, alongside other key stakeholders.
Through local partner, Trust of People, FINILOOP will be working together with the city of Jaipur to create a more robust and sustainable plastic waste management system. This will be achieved through bringing together stakeholders along the entire waste service and value chain, from the everyday person generating waste, to plastic waste enterprises creating a new recycled product. This also includes attracting additional funds into the plastic waste value chain, connecting start-ups and ensuring improved livelihoods of all actors, with a special focus on the crucial role played by informal waste workers. The expansion will build upon the progress made in the cities of Udaipur and Amritsar as part of the successful first year of the programme, taking forward the learnings and impact.
FINILOOP is a partnership between WASTE and local organisations Trust of People and AspireLabs, and is supported by the IKEA Foundation. We are seeking to expand our network in Jaipur with all kinds of innovative people and ideas—business enablers, recyclers, entrepreneurs, government ambassadors— and invite you to connect with our team today: [email protected]
