Let’s talk sustainable solutions at SIWI World Water Week 2025
Our team is busy gearing up for another year of insightful events at the fast approaching SIWI World Water Week. This year’s theme is Water for Climate Action recognising the crucial role water plays in addressing climate change, environmental degradation, and biodiversity loss. We will be bringing our innovative financing and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) expertise to the discussions by hosting and taking part in a series of sessions. Find out more below and join us at this year’s World Water Week.
Developing Climate-Resilient WASH Ecosystems in India and Bangladesh
Tuesday 26 August – 11:00-11:30 | Netherlands Pavilion
In regions with recurring floods, standard sanitation systems too often fail—forcing communities into a cycle of “build-neglect-repair” that perpetuates health risks. This session spotlights a successful “bottom-up” Flood Resilient Toilet (FRT) technology piloted in India and Bangladesh, developed through our innovative sanitation programme, FINISH Mondial. You will have the chance to hear from our local partners as they share their first-hand experiences of this technology in action.
This session is being kindly hosted by Partners for Water at the Netherlands Pavilion.
MoU signing to accelerate and sustain improvements in water supply and sanitation services across Africa
Wednesday 27 August – 15:00 – 16:00 | Netherlands Pavilion
Our work at WASTE is deeply rooted in local contexts, particularly in Africa, where we aim to co-create systems that are inclusive, climate-resilient, and economically empowering. We recognise that African countries are committed to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) by 2030 which is critical for health and the achievement of other goals. To help accelerate progress and support in the implementation of policies and guidelines on financing water and sanitation we are delighted to be signing two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with key African organisations at this year’s World Water Week:
Join us at the Netherlands Pavilion as we pledge to create cleaner healthier futures for all in Africa.
Workshop: RETHINKING the financing of water security: a regenerative nexus approach
Thursday 28 August – 14:00-15:30 | Onsite, Room 26, Level 2
Session ID: 12138
This interactive workshop will guide a systems analysis, lesson drawing and rethinking process. Together we will explore the potential of a regeneration approach to address water financing gaps, and examine trends like impact investing, outcome-based financing, and innovative partnerships for collective action—identifying key leverage points we can lift together.
WASTE will host this event in partnership with We are Water Foundation and Altamira. We will be joined by speakers from across the global WASH sector and will be launching the findings from an exciting new microfinance study.

As well as hosting a series of sessions, our team will also be appearing as panelists in the following sessions being run by some of our wonderful partners.
Treatment – the indispensable services for Africa’s Safely Managed Sanitation
Sunday 24 August – 09:00-10:30 | Onsite, Room A4, Level 6
Session ID: 12112
This session will highlight the lack of attention to the entire downstream part of the sanitation value chain, and treatment in particular. It will also show the state of faecal sludge treatment plants in Africa and suggest improvements towards safely managed and climate resilient sanitation services for all.
PanAfrican Association of Sanitation Actors (PASA) will host this event, and our Programme Director, Nouria Ouibrahim, will be sharing experiences from our FINISH Mondial programme.
There is still time to register for the conference and join us live for these events. Details of how to register for WWW can be found here.
