This annual report highlights themes which have been of importance to WASTE in 2008. One of them was of course WASTE's 25 year anniversary and the activities around this. Another is the emphasis WASTE has given on improving its monitoring system in projects and programmes. Sustainable financing is also a theme that has gotten much attention in several projects of WASTE.

WASTE is an adviser for development projects in countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. WASTE aims at sustainable improvement of the urban environment and improvement of the living conditions of the low-income population.
This narrative report gives a brief overview of what has happened in and around our projects and programmes in 2007.
What was special in 2007?
Earlier WASTE had applied for and received full funding under MFS budget from DGIS (Ministry of Development Cooperation). Of course rolling out the ISSUE-2 programme in 15 different countries proved no mean task.
The long-awaited Public Private Partnership with the United Nations Development Programme for integrated sustainable waste management got off the ground mid 2007.
And towards the end of 2007 a third major programme, SPA, received the green light as well.
This annual report describes our activities in these programmes and other projects highlighting 4 themes:
1. Planning cycle
2. Working with partners
3. Upscaling and implementation
4. Knowledge management

WASTE has expert knowledge on domestic solid and liquid waste management and sanitation issues. By forming alliances with other agencies and companies we consolidate this knowledge and work more efficiently.
On the overall WASTE carries out assignments in close co-operation with local partners and strives at strengthening local capacity. Within the ISSUE programme (2003-2006) several regional consortia are formed in West Africa, East Africa, Central America, India and The Philippines. During ISSUE 2 the number of districts have extended to 15, which means that many more consortia will be formed.
WASTE has listed its projects in the following folder. It can be downloaded here.
